We spent an afternoon at Pennington Flash. It was blowing a gale and there were no rare birds around, but there were plenty of swans, geese, gulls, etc. The winds made for rough waves and it was fun to watch the birds dealing with all of that. This curious fellow came up on the shore to me, probably looking for a handout. I don't often see one on land and all their elegance disappears, but he strolled over with such attitude that I couldn't resist a portrait.

"I'm an introvert.
I'm not shy, I'm a noticer, I'm an observer.
I'm not stuck up or anti-social, I treasure my solitude.
I'm reserved until I am not."

I too live in a house with steep gables and I find these homes around West Michigan so appealing.

The Castle was built as a summerhouse in 1754 for Randle Wilbraham I of Rode Hall. It was built to look like part of a castle of a bygone era, and would have enhanced the view of the newly constructed Rode Hall some 3 miles away on the Cheshire side of the hill. Mr. Wilbraham employed local stonemasons John and Ralph Harding. It is said they were paid 1 shilling a day, and one of the members of the family lost a hand while constructing the castle. The Wilbraham family used the summerhouse for picnics and entertaining friends on days out.

These were a handmade gift from a friend who gives cooking lessons, DCD Cuisine. Macarons are delicate and finicky French sandwich cookies made entirely of ground almonds, egg whites, and sugar. The possibilities for fillings are endless, but the most difficult feat is achieving the right consistency and presentation of the macaron shells.
These were perfect and I have been promised that I can have a lesson to make them.

Bodleian Library, Oxford University
Since it seemed this would be a once in a lifetime visit to Oxford we decided to splurge on a private walking tour. The best travel money we could have spent. The young university student with Footprints Tours was superb and he worked hard to make sure I visited the best sites for photography. I have so much I am pleased with that it is hard to decide what to edit first.

In the heart of Ambleside, is a quaint stone mill, its weathered walls blending with the cobbled charm of the Lake District village. The mill’s wooden waterwheel, darkened by years of use and mist, no longer turns but it remains a gentle a nod to centuries of industry. The Giggling Goose Cafe is there for the many tourists that visit the village. However, the scene still whispers of a bygone era, where craft and nature worked in harmony.

Nao Santa Maria (Spain) is a replica of the flagship of Christopher Columbus’ exploration fleet.
This view made me wonder what Columbus was thinking as he looked up through the rigging on his first voyage that was supposed to take him on a new passage to the East. So much conflicting history about this man and other adventurers like him. Were they courageous explorers or cruel conquerors? Probably a bit of both and a product of their culture and time period. Would any one of us had been different if we had lived back then?

So I caved and bought a Lensbaby (just a used one very cheap). So here is an image of my Bradford Pear blossoms from my first shoot. I immediately discerned that it had a pretty steep learning curve. I know it's a controversial lens, but I don't care. It was so fun and I can see places where it will fit into my shooting very nicely.
PS ignore the exif...I forgot to change the info on a non-CPU lens.

The incredible view in Muker Parish. As I sat there, the Who's song came to mind and even though they were a bit ahead of my time, I have always enjoyed their iconic music.

This view of San Marco Square never happens except at 5:00 am in March when the lights are still on and the only visitors are a couple of photographers hauling their tripods around. What a sight this is!
Thanks to the direction of our kind friend Maurizio Fecchio who told us how to get this view. The first morning he took us here was heavy fog and while I got a couple of unique moody captures, we came back 2 days later and got this. This was despite severe jet lag and a 4:00am rise.

The name "Niagara" comes from the Iroquoian word "Onguiaahra," meaning "a thundering noise".
The force of the falls is staggering, even now, though much of its water is diverted especially at night and off-season. Drawn off upstream to feed the insatiable human need for power.
Still, the massive curtain of water crashes down each day (6 million cubic feet a minute) and people come from across the world to stand at this edge. The viewer is grateful they overcame the cliche hotels and tourist attractions, to experience at least once in their life the sight and sound of this majestic natural wonder.

It was my little brother caleb4ever that picked up on how this angle captured the crazy roof lines from the buildings that sat behind. I simply got down to where he was and shot from the same angle.

I love the bright colors and lights at county fairs, but you can keep the rides.
My first ever date was to the county fair. I rode on this same ride...it was called "Tilt a Whirl" back then. As we exited the ride, I threw up on my date's shoes. Needless to say the relationship did not progress...:-)))
